The good news is that with modern technology, the appearance of all these conditions can be improved or reversed. One such procedure is Ultherapy which targets sagging skin and wrinkles.

What is Ultherapy, and How Does it Work?

Ultherapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses ultrasound energy to reach deeper parts of your skin to counteract aging signs. This means there are no surgical incisions involved.

The procedure works by directing heat to the deeper layers of the skin, where collagen, the most prevalent protein in the body, is produced. With temperatures as high as 70°C, the body detects the heat and fights back in a process meant to repair tissues and heal wounds. The high heat is enough to alter collagen structure through denaturation. This is a process where external factors such as heat alter a protein structure to the extent of not performing its cellular functions.

Denaturation does not only disrupt the cell activity but may also cause death to the cell. This process forces the body to produce more collagen due to the death or destruction of the cell through excess heat. New collagen gives you youthful-looking skin that entails firm skin, fewer fine lines, and wrinkles, and reduced sagging.

This is unlike laser treatment which uses light energy. Other body parts can also be treated with consultation with your service provider. These include the upper arm, thighs, and abdomen. Some practitioners allow clients to do the procedure in stages. This means dealing with the superficial depth-first and getting into the deeper areas after a few months. You may consult your provider on such arrangements.

The procedure focuses on the eyebrows, neck, chin, and chest areas, the main areas where sagging skin is prevalent.

The Ultherapy Procedure

After cleaning the areas that need to be worked on, the professional places the ultrasound device on the targeted areas. An ultrasound viewer is then used to set the appropriate dimensions on the device. This is followed by the release of ultrasound energy on the specific areas.

The treatment takes between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the area being treated. The chest area takes a shorter time compared to the neck and brows due to easy access. The chest area is also not adversely damaged to such a big extent compared to the areas exposed to the sun often.

The procedure may cause tingling sensations due to the targeted heat. If you experience pain, painkillers should be given though this is not always the case. You may also experience slight discomfort, tenderness, and swelling since the heat is in high amounts. These sensations should subside after the procedure. If the section being treated gets bruised or numb, this should go away after a few days.

How Long Does Ultherapy Last?

After a session, results last between one and two years. This is done by combining the procedure with other recommended skincare routines such as proper cleansing and sunscreen use to avoid sun damage.

The client’s age should also be factored in, in addition to the fact that different people react differently to the treatment. A younger client’s collagen production is better than an older client’s. This means they do not only depend on the procedure, but their own body boosts collagen production too.

Some clients experience tightening immediately after the session, though most experience a new look gradually. This ranges from a month where there is a noticeable difference. However, the full effects should be expected after three months. Most clients report experiencing improvement after two to six months. A good number reported being very satisfied with the procedure after three months or 90 days.
